SHEFFIELD’s Irish community will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day (WEDNESDAY 17 MARCH) with an exciting programme of activities to mark the city’s second Sheffield Irish Festival.
KEY DETAILS:
12:45hrs - Traditional Irish Mass at St. Marie’s Catholic Cathedral, Norfolk Row, Sheffield City Centre, with traditional Irish musicians.
13:45hrs - We will then have a St. Patrick’s Day parade – from outside the Cathedral to Sheffield Town Hall. The parade will be led by an Irish piper and flag-bearer and will be met by a display of traditional Irish dancing outside the Town Hall.
14:10hrs - Inside the Town Hall we will have a civic reception hosted by Sheffield’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Graham Oxley. We will also hear from a senior representative from the Irish Embassy. C. 200 members of the community are expected with live music from a range of top Irish musicians.
A spokesman for Sheffield Irish Festival said:
“St. Patrick’s Day is the most important date in the calendar for Irish people living outside Ireland. It’s special for those born in Ireland, but perhaps more so for those with more distant family roots to the Emerald Isle.
“Our St. Patrick’s Day celebration is also the centrepiece of our festival and a chance to showcase some of the amazing Irish talent we have in the city.”
