Sheffield’s Irish hit the airwaves in RTE special

“The Irish Experience” presented by renowned Irish broadcaster, Paschal Mooney, will be in Sheffield next week to record a special programme featuring interviews with members of the Irish community in the city, recounting stories about their lives and family connections to Ireland, as well as hearing live performances from Sheffield-based Irish musicians singers and poets.
The event takes place on Wednesday 25th November at 8.00pm in the Royal Victoria Holiday Inn, Victoria Station Road, Sheffield city centre.

Kevin Meagher, chairman of Sheffield Irish Association, said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to be hosting Paschal’s show. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase Sheffield’s Irish cultural talent to a large audience back home, especially from the magnificent surroundings of the ballroom in Sheffield’s oldest and most prestigious hotel.
“Sheffield has always had a wealth of cultural figures with Irish connections ranging from the actors Patrick McGoohan and Dominic West through to more familiar figures like Brendan Ingle and Derek Dooley. Even Peter Stringfellow has Irish roots!
“And because Paschal’s show is extremely popular, this is also a great chance for us to get in a plug about what Sheffield has to offer to potential investors and tourists from Ireland.”

Host of The Irish experience, Paschal Mooney, added:

“We’re really looking forward to hearing what the Irish community in Sheffield has to offer.
“Sheffield isn’t as readily associated with the Irish community in the way that London or Manchester are, but that will change as we’ve got a terrific line up of performers.
“I’m sure it’s going to make a fantastic show that will really help put Sheffield on the map back in Ireland.”
